Population and Housing Census

Comprehensive information on the population, households and housing of the census is used as basic data when establishing major national policies.

Socio-economic data from the census is used as a population for the sample surveys in the household sector.
- Among a total of 292 kinds of household-related surveys (as of February 2020), 220 kinds of surveys (75.3%) use the results of the Population and Housing Census as a population.

Statistics Korea uses census results when estimating population projections and household projections.
By using population and household projection data, the Ministry of Employment and Labor establishes labor supply and demand plans, and the Ministry of Health and Welfare estimates the insurance premium rate and national pension budget.
Census results are used as basic data when producing various social and housing indicators.
- The Ministry of Health and Welfare produces 「Low fertility and aging index (using demographic structure data and projection data)」.
- The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport produces「House supply rate (using the number of houses and the number of households)」 and 「Households below the minimum housing standard (using the number of household members, residential area, and facility data)」.

As basic data for researches of universities and research institutes and business management of private enterprises, census results are used for the creation of value added and production planning.
1~2% of census data is provided free of charge and census results are provided on the KOSIS website.
